What is Cellbits.com?

Cellbits.com is an outlet for the creative output of a small group of independent artists, animators and photographers aimed at entertaining cell phone users with static and animated mobile phone backgrounds.

How do I figure out which wallpapers and screensavers have my screen size?

Cellbits mobile graphics are available in 18 sizes at this time. The screen sizes are listed below each preview on the site. The sizes are described in width x height. So if you see 128x160, that means 128 pixels wide by 160 pixels high. The 18 sizes currently are: 128x128, 128x160, 176x220, 240x320, 240x400, 320x240, 320x480, 480x800, 480x854, 540x960, 640x480, 820x720. 960x800, 960x854, 720x1280, 768x1280, 1080x960 and 1080x1920. Some graphics are in all 18 sizes, but others only have some of these sizes available for download. If you have a need for another screen size, please contact us, and we'll see what we can do.

Are graphic downloads from Cellbits really free?

Yes! And we do not require a membership or personally identifying info to download digital items to your phone.  Please read the Terms of Use further down this page.

Even though we don't charge you for a free item or it's download, your cellular company may charge you by the kilobyte downloaded, or you may pay an additional fee for data access and messaging plans. Plus, there are usually a few kilobytes transferred just by going to the web link for your desired download. If you have an unlimited data plan, no worries! See the Terms of Use at the bottom of this page, and read the How to Download page for more info. You should also know the details of your cell phone plan and your phone's capabilities. Do Cellbits wallpapers and screensavers work with any cell phone on any carrier?

Our cell phone wallpapers and screensavers will work with a wide variety of handsets (with mobile internet capabilities) and carrier services, but not all of them. Graphic/screen size availability aside, some carriers may block downloads from the open internet, or may set certain phones to be unable to download and/or store wallpapers, ringtones and other digital items. Different phones and carriers use different browsers, with various capabilities and levels of access to the internet. Also, some models of phones and manufacturers use and store wallpapers (non-motion) and screensavers (animated/motion) differently. As noted above, please check your phone owners manual and the details of your service with your carrier.

Why doesn't the animation I downloaded play on my cell phone?

Some cell phones and smart phones don't show gif animations when they are applied as wallpapers or main backgrounds. They just show the first frame of the animation. Motorola phones and Android phones fall into the "non-animated" category. Android phones require Live Wallpaper packages to show animated background wallpapers. See our collection of Android screensaver live wallpapers here. Motorola feature phones do have a screensaver mode, so animations can play when the phone is getting ready to "sleep". We are trying to assemble a list of phones that do not allow animated wallpapers. Of course, you can download one of our wallpapers that isn't animated if that is the case. If you know of or have a phone that falls in this category, please e-mail us and tell us the make and model, and we will add the information to our phone specs page. Most mobile phone operator's manuals don't mention whether animated wallpapers will work or not, so help your fellow cell phone owners learn from your hands-on experience!

Why can't I send a "copy" of a downloaded item to a friend's phone or PC?
